Justice Minister Etilda Gjoni has demanded the dismissal of Petraq Curri, judge of Durrės court. She submitted her request formally to the High Council of Justice on Friday. In July last year, this judge freed Alket Hatiaj, a man that was declared wanted from Italy for heroin and cocaine traffic.
Following this decision, the Ministry of Justice ordered a disciplinary investigation from which resulted that the judge has committed serious violations by rejecting the prosecution's request for the imposition of the custody arrest measure with the purpose of extradition. A few days later, the Court of Appeals decided to take him back to prison, but Hatija was not found in his apartment.
The minister has requested disciplinary investigation also for the judge of Kruja District Court, Enkelejda Hoxha. This judge freed Genc Tafili last November. Tafili and his brother, Admir Tafili, were sentenced for the murder of the police officer, Arben Zylyftari. Genc Tafili spent 17 years in prison out of the total of 25. It is expected that the HCJ will gather in the coming days to decide on the requests of the Minister of Justice.
