The number of people spending huge amounts of money on gambling is increasing in Albania while data provided by the Gambling Supervisory Authority show that in 2016, Albanians spent 140 million dollars in this industry.
On annual terms, the expenditures in this sector increased by 15 percent in 2016, thus invalidating government’s efforts in 2013 to fight this phenomenon through a nationwide operation to reduce number of casinos and put them outside cities.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that there are only the official expenditures because the fact is that informality in this sector remains high. Only a few months ago, the Supreme Audit Institution declared that Euro 375 million were missing in state coffers from this industry for period 2014-2016, blaming the relevant structures for not collecting planned revenues.
Based on official statements, it turns out that the electronic casinos are the category where Albanians spend more.
