The laziness rate in Albania has been rapidly decreased last year. The latest data released by the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) shows the population's interest to join the work market.
According to these data in the third quarter of 2017, the rate of participation in the labor force, otherwise said the proportion of the labor force to the population in working age, was 67 percent for the working age population, indicating an increase since 201.
In the last ten years, the highest level was registered in 2011, where 68 percent of the population aged 15-64 expressed interest in working, while the lowest level was registered in 2013, where this indicator went down to 59 percent.
The low participation in labor market indicates a high percentage of people discouraged from seeking employment or other people dedicated to the family obligations such as raising children, invalidity or taking care of other family members.
Participation in the labor force sees great inequalities in Albania, where the lowest turnout is among women.
According to INSTAT, the women’s participation rate as labor force was 58% in the third quarter of 2017, while for men this indicator is 76%.
For men, the participation rate in the workforce is 18 percentage points higher than for women. Compared to the same quarter of 2016, the rate of participation in women's labor force fell by 1.2 percentage points, while for men it increased by 0.7 percentage points.
