Floods prevention has a much lower cost compared to the indemnification for the affected families when situation returns to normality. This philosophy seems to have been the origin of a series of investments made during the last years by the Ministry of Agriculture in many areas endangered by the floods. The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Niko Peleshi underlined this fact during an inspection of Wednesday of the drainage channels in Berat municipality.
“The government has been focusing in the floods prevention investments during the last years. A fund of ALL 160 Million was allocated to the Berat municipality for the rehabilitation of Duhanas village reservoir and embankments repair in order to prevent Osum river overflowing. Thanks to similar investments in the most endangered areas of the country we managed to prevent a catastrophe in spite of the heavy rains of these last days. The work done by the municipalities with the central government financial endorsement resulted successful,” said Peleshi.
