Drugs Trafficking in Italy, 4 Officials Arrested in Durres

Two police officers at the Durrės border crossing point, a customs officer at Durrės Harbor and a customs agent were arrested on Wednesday as part of the inquiry from the smuggling 2.5 tons of drugs to Italy. The police officers Gezim Dervishi and Agron Kapllani were arrested along with customs officer Altin Katundi and customs agent Mikail Hila.

The Prosecution of Serious Crimes inquiry indicated that the arrested individuals facilitated the border-crossing of the truck carrying the narcotics quantity

Vice-commissar Festim Lelaj, currently part of Fier police forces, was also arrested one day ago by order of the Prosecution of Serious Crimes as part of the same inquiry. Lelaj’s arrest was based on his alleged role as coordinator of the drugs smuggling network that arranged the transportation to Italy of 2.5 tons of cannabis sativa last January.
