Despite the fact that they are considered among Europe’s poorest people, Albanians spend a lot for clothing. The comparative data made public by the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) and Euro-Stat regarding the share of expenditure by purpose of consumption shows that Albanian consumers spend 4.9% of this total for clothing and shoes maintaining the rhythms of 19 Euro-Zone countries, who spend almost 5 %.
Albanians manage to spend 4.9% of the total for clothing, a relatively luxurious product, though they due to the low level of incomes have the highest burden of food expenditures, an absolutely necessary product, with nearly 49%, from 12.3% spent by the Europeans for food.
The countries that spend more on clothing are Italy with 6.3% of the total followed by Portugal with 6.1% of the total and Austria.
Baltic countries, like Lithuania and Latvia also pay attention to clothing. Only the Czechs, Greeks, Hungarians, Romanians have a lower burden compared to Albania in this aspect.
