The building of the “National Arena”, the new stadium in the capital of Albania, is going ahead at a rapid pace and in 15 months time it will be ready to welcome the teams and fans. “National Arena” is in UEFA plans for staging the 2019 UEFA Super Cup final match. It will be used not only for the matches of the Albanian national football team, but also as a multifunctional centre for the citizens, services and entertainment all week long.
Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj and the Italian architect Marco Casamonti inspected Friday the works which have actually entered the stage of assembling the steel structure. Mayor Veliaj said that the new stadium will be the new pearl of Tirana. “The talent is his”, Veliaj said for Architect Casamonti who has designed the new stadium, “but the staff, workers, engineers, suppliers are Albanian. This is an important investment in the Albanian economy.”
The mayor commented on the building of the new stadium and said that this is a smart investment of the government of Albania because this work not only preserves the initial physiognomy of the old one, but also adds more value to the capital. “Every stone will be put again on the facade, but we shall also have a modern stadium, one of the most modern in Europe,” said the mayor. The project includes also an underground car park area with a capacity of 200 cars.
Meantime, Architect Casamonti said that half of the construction work has been done and positively assessed the commitment of the Albanian companies who have worked on this project. “Albania should be proud of this stadium because it’s an Albanian undertaking with the contribution of an Italian project, but the extraordinary work of Albanians,” Casamonti said.
