Some 2325 illicit connections have been interrupted so far by the Task Force set up by Tirana City Hall for the management of drinking-water situation. The suburban areas were among most problematic ones due to the fact that drinking-water was used for irrigation or in car-washing plants.
Severe fines were imposed on 10 families and 3 businesses for abuse with drinking-water. On the other side 147 families signed a new contract for the placement of new water-consumption metering devices.
Tirana Mayor, Erion Veliaj has repeatedly addressed an appeal to the citizens to use the drinking water with maximal caution and denounce any abuse by reporting it to the competent authorities.
