Gjirokastra, Eqerem Çabej House Restoration Kicks Off

The house situated in Hazmurat neighborhood, where the teacher, the linguist and known Albanologist, Eqerem Çabej spent his life is becoming subject of restoration.
This process that is already underway involves a series of experienced masters but also young apprentices that are being trained for “Traditional Workmanship in Construction”.

Eriselda, Athanas and Rubin are only some of the young boys and girls that have decided with great passion to learn something new every day about the restoration techniques.

For the first time in three decades the old specialists of restoration are training in theory and practice the new generation of masters. Some 68 new masters of the stone, wood and metal works are expected to be certified until the end of this year in accordance to the traditional techniques applied in Gjirokastra, Berat and Korça.

The professor Eqerem Çabej house is only the first one in a long line of traditional houses that will soon be restored.
