Euro 169 mln Damage Caused by Public Administration

Supreme Audit Institution reported 169 billion euros worth of damages has been caused by the public administration to taxpayers in the first four months of the year.
The newly published Audit bulletin includes the period from January to April this year. According to SAI, most of this financial damage, namely 162 million euros has come as a result of the failure to collect revenues which should have gone in the public accounts or the abuse with expenses made by the administration. Meanwhile, the other part of 7.1 million euros relates to financial violations made by audited institutions.
Divided based on the domains, 30% of the damage comes from abuses with procurements.
On the second place it’s the taxation sector and on the third place are customs.
Based on these damages which have been discovered, SAI said that it has sent 13 cases for prosecution, 9 of which are being investigated and 4 others are being assessed by the Prosecution
