New President of the Republic should be elected directly by the citizens. This proposal was made on Friday by the Democrat leader, Lulzim Basha in response to the majority's invitation to the opposition to participates in this process.
"We have been invited to participate in the election process of the new President. They say to us "We have the votes but let's vote together for a new president". Is this the President of Prime Minister, Edi Rama or Speaker Ilir Meta? No, he belongs to the people, thus should be elected directly by the people. Let's amend the Constitution clearing the path to the president's election by the citizens," said Basha, adding that this important forward step of the new Republic would transfer the power to the citizens.
On the other side he underlined that free and fair elections remain the main focus of opposition's protest that goes in the tent pitched in front of Premier's office since 63 days.
