Aegean, 51 Emigrants Rescued by ‘Oriku’ Patrol Ship

Some
51 emigrants on board of a speedboat were rescued on Friday by ‘Oriku’ patrol
ship. The rescue operation was conducted during morning hours in the Aegean Sea
waters.


The
speedboat carrying the emigrants, later identified as Syrians, was sailing from
the Turkish to the Greek coasts. The Albanian patrol ship ‘Oriku’, part of the
FRONTEX international mission for waters monitoring, noticed the speedboat and
immediately informed the Turkish flagship “RB” and FRONTEX, than sailed toward the
emigrants providing assistance until the arrival of ‘MAI 112 FRONTEX’.


A total 17 women, 12
children and 22 men were found on board of the speedboat rescued by ‘Oriku’
patrol ship. Their rescue marked another successful mission carried on by the
Albanian ship part of FRONTEX mission in the Aegean Sea.
