The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati continued the official visit to USA with a series of meetings in the State Department and Pentagon. He met with Deputy Secretary of State, Thomas Shanon and Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, Theresa Whelan.
During a meeting with Deputy Secretary of State, Shanon interlocutors addressed the strengthening of the cooperation between the two countries within the strategic partnership, as well as the increase of interaction in facing common challenges such as the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
Minister Bushati introduced the US Deputy Secretary of State with the domestic developments, focusing on the reforms undertaken by the Albanian government, mainly the justice reform and the efforts for vetting law implementation.
Deputy Secretary of State, Shanon reconfirmed the close partnership between the two countries, while underlining the United States' strong support for the implementation of the justice reform as well as the joint commitment in defense of the values of democracy, the rule of law and human rights.
Minister Bushati thanked Deputy Secretary of State for the continued support of the United States for Albania and the region, in strengthening peace, democratic stability and state-consolidation reforms.
In this context the US high rank official called on all political parties in Albania to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Pairs dwelt also on the latest developments in the region, Albania's constructive role in strengthening regional cooperation, and the importance of country's contribution in improving the safety environment in South East Europe.
